- Start with your rendered tallow that you cooked down in the crockpot and strained through an old tea towel.
- Add 2 cups of water to your clean crockpot and 1 cup of salt. Stir to combine.
- Add the cooled tallow and heat everything together on low until melted.
- Let simmer on low for an hour stirring often to combine the salt water and fat.
- This helps clarify and pull out the beefy smell.
- Turn off and let the fat solidify in a cool location. The fat will rise to the top and you will be able to pull it off the water.
- Trim the side off that was against the water.
- Repeat this process 3-4 times, always starting with a clean crockpot and fresh salt water.
